The beauty of the Ninja Rap wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the Turtles in general, and TMNT II in particular. And while you can totally appreciate the Ninja Rap without knowing loads and loads about the movie, it’s pretty important that you know some basic facts. Read, learn and spread the Ninja love!
After surviving the battle with Splinter at the end of the first TMNT movie, Shredder returns to discover that the TGRI company is producing waste which causes mutation to various forms of life and clamors to get some of the secret ooze. It just so happens that April O’Neil is working on a story about this controversy. After the story airs, Splinter realizes that this secret waste is the same thing that caused the Turtles to mutate to their current form.
So, a battle over this secret ooze ensues: the Turtles desperately need it to get to the bottom of their mutation, but Shredder wants it for far more surly purposes. Unfortunately, Shredder’s minions get the last canister of ooze, forcing the Turtles to pursue his clan -- and, as they soon discover, the terribly mutated creatures he’s created.
Two of these creatures, Tokka and Rahzar, pose an especially significant problem -- they’re just too tough. But in swoops Vanilla Ice to save the day! As the Turtles fight Tokka and Rahzar in a nightclub, Ice lays down some freelance rhymes, chanting “Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!” effectively creating the Ninja Rap on the spot. The day, of course, is eventually saved -- but could it have been done without Ice’s sweet beats?
